How to prepare Bhappa Ilish ?

                                 Bhappa Ilish 

Cooking time:  40 mins (10 mins for preparation + 30 mins for steaming)


Bhappa Ilish is a very popular Bengali delicacy where Ilish fish is steamed with a mixture of mustard seeds and chilli, ginger garlic paste. As no spices and very less oil is used, so this recipe is quite healthy too !  Lets see the ingridients to prepare Bhappa Ilish at home.

What we need:

One Ilish fish  (Cleaned and cutted into medium pieces)

Black and white mustard seeds: 3 spoons

Musk melon seeds: 3 spoons

Onion: 2 (Big size)

Tomato: 2 (Medium size)

Garlic: 1 (Big size)

Green/Red chillies: 2-4

Corriander

Salt and turmeric: according to taste

Few drops of oil

 Procedure:

Grind all the ingridients in a mixer grinder. Marinate the fish pieces with the mixture and place in a tiffin. Now, close the tiffin cover. 

In a pot, boil 3-4 cups of water and place the tiffin in the boiling water. Cover the pot and let it to steam for nearly 30 mins. Off the gas stove. Remove the tiffin cover and add few drops of mustard oil. Garnish with green chillies and corriander. Your bhappa ilish is ready to serve.
